My name is Serena Amico. Originally from the province of Venice, I moved to Milan eight years ago to study Fashion Design at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating in 2017, I worked at various fashion companies, practicing tasks in the commercial field, until I got to take care of the style of a brand of bags and shoes. During my working career, I have always felt my creativity was limited and it is for this reason that I gave birth to SA.D ( Serena Amico Design), a small handmade business that creates clothes by reusing other garments or scraps of fabric. My approach to tailoring and upcycling began when I was a child when, together with my grandmother, I used to sew Barbie dolls' clothes out of scraps of fabric I had at home. Today, given my work experience, I consider sustainability and non-standardisation to be the fundamental principles underlying my idea of creativity. For me, clothing is an expression of freedom and upcycling is a creative fashion process that not only helps the environment, but also makes the wearer unique. It is precisely for these reasons that I love working according to this philosophy: everyone has the right to feel free to fully express his or her own being.
